Character builder
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance, and endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
Romans 5:3-4
We all love to have a problem-free or trouble-free life. We hate problems and troubles and get saddened when we face trials in life. Our countenance changes from joy to sorrow and we lose hope.
But apostle Paul paints a different picture and in fact, it's true.
He asks us to rejoice when we run into problems and trials. It may seem unkind to tell someone to rejoice when they face problems in life, especially when someone is going through sickness or financial struggle or problems in the family and such.
But why should someone rejoice or be glad when facing trials? Apostle Paul mentions the reason to rejoice in these verses.
It is because trials and troubles in our life make us look to God, draws us near God, it makes us to pray more and search for God's word.
It is our natural tendency that when all is going well in life we tend to be distracted from going to God and spending time in His Word, but when we hit trials in life, our attitude changes and we become attentive to God's presence around us.
Now God does not bring trials in your life, James 1:13 says that God does not tempt anyone. It is our bad decisions, bad lifestyle, circumstances, and sometimes others' behavior around does cause us to run into trials. But the good news is God's love always surrounds us and when we run to Him during the time of trouble, He helps us and makes us strong. Our character changes for good, we become strong in faith and we experience the abundant love of our LORD Jesus Christ and when our faith gets stronger and stronger we get delivered from the trials.
Trials are the character builder. So don't lose heart today if you have run into trials and walking in the middle of it. Draw near to God, which makes your faith stronger and it sets you free.
