Come Forward

Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.

Psalms 95:2

Henry Alford was a master of languages. Even as a child, he could repeat many phrases in Greek and Latin. As an adult, he became a poet, painter, musician, Biblical scholar, and author. He served several churches in England before becoming dean of Canterbury Cathedral. In spite of these accomplishments, he never forgot the importance of having a thankful heart. He made it a habit at the end of the day to stand up and thank God for what he had received.
In 1844, he expressed this spirit of thankfulness in a hymn, “Come, Ye Thankful People, come,” which celebrated the goodness of God. His cry was for all thankful people to come forward and give thanks to the God our maker who provides for our wants and supply for our needs and protects us from danger.
During this season of thanksgiving it is important that we come forward and show our gratitude to our LORD for His sacrifice on the cross, for reconciling us with Father God in heaven. It is important that you share your testimonies big or small to those who have not tasted the goodness of God. Make it a habit during this thanksgiving to acknowledge what God has done in your life. When you sit around the table sharing the thanksgiving meal with others, may your conversation be about God's goodness in your life, may your life shine before others. As you come forward to express your thankfulness to God, may your heart be filled with His peace and Joy.
