Seize the Moment
The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan.
Mark 1:12-13
Many in the corporate world and the political world encourage a principle called “Seize the moment”. It means to to act immediately on the opportunity and not wait for a particular time to do anything and not be cautious observers and miss many opportunities.
This principle may be ok for a few times. But the bible teaches us it is more important to be sensitive to God’s leading, to wait for His time, and to realize that rushing and trying to force matters will lead us out of His will.
Jesus himself practiced this principle. After He took baptism, instead of seizing the moment and launching the ministry, He did the opposite. He obeyed to the Holy Spirit leading and went to the wilderness for forty days to spend time facing temptation and preparing.
Jesus knew the importance of being sensitive to the Father’s timing. He was putting into practice the principles David shared: “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14).
Jesus was sensitive to act at just the right time – ready to obey the Father, even if that meant waiting but ready to act when He directed.
Seek to follow His example. Seek to be sensitive to God’s timing. Wait, when He tells you to wait, but always be ready to act.
