A Sign for God
I have set you as a sign to the house of Israel.
Ezekiel 12:6
God told Ezekiel that part of his calling was to be a sign. God needed a man who would be willing to be fully committed to Him, and accept His assignment. The task was important because Israel needed to realize that God is speaking to them through Ezekiel and hear the warnings.
To be an effective sign, Ezekiel had to lay aside his personal desires and interests. He had to be committed completely to God. To surrender his will, and do whatever God wanted, regardless of what other people might say or think.
Part of that assignment was to tell Israel, “I am a sign to you.” Ezekiel demonstrated himself as a sign through various ways as instructed by God. He prepared a baggage for exile and went into exile. He dug a hole through the wall, and went through it. He covered his face so that he could not see the land. He ate with trembling and drank with quivering and anxiety. Though these actions seemed crazy, it conveyed a great sign and a message to the people of Israel.
Like Ezekiel we are also called to be a sign for our Lord Jesus Christ. We are called to love our enemies, we are called to pray for those who hate us, we are called to forgive those who trespass against us, we are called to love our neighbor as ourselves, we are called to be the salt and light of this world. We are called to always be ready to accomplish His assignments. Always sensitive to His leading. Never concerned about the opinions of others. Completely committed to do His will.
By being a sign to our Lord Jesus Christ, we convey to this world the love of the one true God who sacrificed His life for all and who rose again victorious. By being a sign, we convey to this world that there is a true God who cares for them and who never leaves them nor forsakes them.
Remember, you are called to be a sign, a representative of Lord Jesus Christ, in the marketplace, in the community, within your family. May your thoughts, actions and words reflect Christ.
