Blessings of Fruitfulness
But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel.
Micah 5:2
Bethlehem is the most famous place on earth. Everyone knows what that place is. It is the birthplace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Every nativity scene depicts Bethlehem. Today's verse is the prophecy of Christ's birth told many hundred years ago. In this verse, Bethlehem is mentioned as little among the thousands. This verse conveys to us that Bethlehem was not a vibrant city like New York, London, or Paris, it was an insignificant place.
But why did God choose this insignificant place for the birth of His Son? The answer to that is also in this verse. The other name for Bethlehem mentioned in this verse is Ephrathah, which means fruitfulness or fruitful land. It is believed that people in Bethlehem out of all of Judah were fruitful to the Lord and expecting His coming. They all lived a life for the Lord Almighty and were producing fruits, demonstrating the love of God among others, and being obedient to His commandments. Hence God chose that place, even though it was insignificant. Even today you may be insignificant in the eyes of many, but when you are fruitful for the Lord He will choose you as the vessel and lift you up and glorify His name through you. The blessing of fruitfulness is honor and glory.
