What do you want?
That night God appeared to Solomon and said, “What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you.
2 Chronicles 1:7
This is a famous verse that we all know about. We have heard and learned from Sunday school at church. God appears to Solomon in a dream and tells him to Ask whatever He needs and that He will give it to him.
What an awesome dream. We wish we had such a dream and we wish that God will ask the same question to us like He did to Solomon.
We read later in the chapter that God granted Solomon His wish.
What was the secret to Solomon's answered prayer? Why did God suddenly appear to Solomon and told him to Ask whatever he wants?
There must be a valid reason for God to be much pleased with Solomon so that He can come to Him and give Him whatever he desired.
The answer is in the previous verse, verse six. We read that Solomon offered to the LORD a thousand burnt offerings.
This was the greatest number of offerings sacrificed by one man that is recorded in the bible.
This pleased the LORD GOD and He granted all the wishes of king Solomon and also much beyond.
Today how do we please God like king Solomon and have Him grant our hearts desires? Obviously, we cannot offer animal sacrifices as Solomon did.
Bible gives us an answer to this.
In Romans 12:1, it says to offer your bodies as living sacrifice holy and pleasing to God.
Of course, it does not ask us to sacrifice our body and die, it actually means to live a holy life and life filled with God's love, loving others, caring for others, treating others gently, with kindness, helping the poor and needy, sharing the gospel and forgiving one another.
This kind of lifestyle is the sacrifice that pleases LORD GOD and when you do so, your prayers are answered, just like Solomon's, and whatever you ask is granted.
May your life be pleasing and acceptable to LORD Jesus Christ so He can come to you and ask you what do you want?
