The Life

Bread in those days was a life giver. Most of the food in those days were made of bread, without bread there was no food made. Hence, bread was a vital part of food making. Bread was the most needed commodity than water in those days. Bread sustained peoples life, bread gave them the strength, bread gave them joy. Bread was primarily served in wedding feast.
For the people of Israel bread symbolized prosperity, healing, well-being, goodness, joy, happiness etc.
Jesus, knowing the importance of bread, said this to the Israelites, that He is the bread of life. What does He mean by that?
What Jesus is saying is this, the one who is greater than the earthly bread is among them. Earthly bread can only give life to the physical body, but our Lord Jesus give life both to the physical body and spiritual soul. He is unimaginably more than bread. He gives us the healing, the strength to overcome challenges, He raises dead situations to life, He brings joy and peace to us, He is our very present help in the time of need.
Today you have this living bread, our Lord Jesus Christ, always with you where ever you go. So do not be afraid, nor be anxious. He will take care of you and all that concerns you.
In fact He gave His very life for you, will He not take care of you.
So today be of good cheer, for our Lord Jesus has overcome the world.
