Prayer with a Vow
Eli answered, Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.
1 Samuel 1:17
Hannah, the mother of the great prophet Samuel, before he was born, could not conceive for a long time. The bible says that God has closed her womb and hence she could not conceive, because of this shame came upon her, and she became an instrument of mockery.
But why did God closed the womb of Hannah. There is deep truth in it. The reason God closed Hannah's womb, because God wanted Hannah to make a vow and give her firstborn son to serve the Lord when he is born. Until the time Hannah was not ready to make this vow, God kept her womb closed and was working in her heart.
The desperation of her need pulled her into making a very important vow of her life to God, which is committing her firstborn son to the Lord's service.
So Hannah prayer to the Lord and made this vow and said, if only God gives her a son, she will give him back to the service of the Lord in the temple.
Yes, indeed, God answered that prayer immediately and gave Hannah a son named Samuel. Now Hannah was faithful in fulfilling her vow and once Samuel was born gave him back to the service of the Lord in the temple. God rewarded Hannah richly for her commitment in fulfilling the vow, by given her 3 more sons and 2 more daughters.
Sometimes your prayers for healing or financial blessing or restoration of marriage or salvation of loved ones, or deliverance for children may be delayed and not answered because God wants something from you and is waiting for you to make a vow to the Lord and commit to Him what He needs. When you make that vow and faithfully do it, He not only quickly answers your prayers but blesses you more than you ask or think. Today what is your need, present that before the Lord with a vow, go to His temple in prayer and speak that vow and fulfil it and see the mighty hand of God prospering you in all your ways.
