Rolling away Reproach
Then the Lord said to Joshua, Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you. So the place has been called Gilgal to this day.
Joshua 5:9
Israel had a glorious experience being with God in the wilderness and talking to Him face to face. But inspite of all that, Israel has always been stamped as slaves of Egypt.
Their surrounding nations had this impression in their mind that Israel is a slave nation, and hence they treated them as they would treat a slave.
No nations around Israel respected them and came against them wherever they went.
Even in the wilderness they travelled for 40 years, inspite of being in the presence of the Lord, they perished due to their sin and disobedience.
Plague struck them, calamities hit them and Israelites were put to shame many times.
After 430 years of slavery and 40 years of they wandering in the wilderness without any name for their own, place of their own, kindgom for their own, king for their own, land for their own, their name was mocked all around the neighboring nations. They were called wanderers.
But finally God allowed them to enter the promise land, they miraculously crossed the Jordan, and before they could inherit God's promises, He told them that He is removing the reproach of Egypt from them, remove the reproach of slavery from them and the rest is history.
Today you may be like the Israelites, in reproach and being mocked by friends, relatives, coworkers, you may have failed in your attempts, your children may have put you to shame, you may have not lived a life of defeat, but today God is removing this reproach away from you, to give you a place of your own, a position, and victory. Take courage because the one who rolled away the reproach of Egypt is with you to honor you and lift you up.
