Cast your bread

Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days.

Ecclesiastes 11:1

The Bible teaches us an important principle from agriculture that works in every aspect of life. Farmers only reap a harvest if they sow the right seeds into the right soil at the right time. Beautiful gardens exist because the right seeds are sown into the right soil at the right time. This is the same pattern that works for finances, health, relationships, and spiritual lives.
Casting the bread on water means to give our talents, skills, time and resources for the good of others. It means investing in the right place and with a willing heart. Normally, we might feel compelled to hold on to that bread – to store it up. Instead, the Bible encourages us to cast this bread. To let it go. To invest it.
Many times we are tempted to use the God given talents, gifts and resources for our own good and for improving our own lifestyle, but only to see such use does not give any return. Jesus said in Mathew 6:19-21, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Casting the bread is like storing the treasures in heaven, is like building a lifestyle for you and for your generations in heaven. That is why giving is so important, may it be giving financially to a church or ministry or to poor and needy, or giving your talents and time for God’s work and for helping others, because by doing so you are not only blessed here on earth but store up a great blessing that God gives you in heaven for you and for your generation throughout eternity.
Ask God to show you how you can cast your bread into the water. Don’t hold on to the resources you have been given, but step out in faith and be bold. Give that you might receive a bountiful Harvest. Trust God to bless you for your faithfulness.
