Yes and Amen

The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham.

Matthew 1:1

Matthew opens his Gospel by identifying Jesus as “the Son of David, the Son of Abraham,” (Matt 1:1) a declaration that echoes across centuries of waiting. This genealogy is far more than a list of names—it’s a proclamation that God’s ancient promises have finally arrived in human form.
Long before Matthew wrote these words, God made an unbreakable covenant with David, declaring that “your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.” (2 Sam 7:16)
Matthew emphasizes that Jesus came to fulfill the unconditional covenants God made with David. Not only David but also Abraham (Gen 22:18).
God promises are true and yes and amen. Even though it delays it shall surely come to pass.
His delays are not denial. He is a faithful God.
All God's promises for you will surely come to pass. No circumstance or situation or time or anything else under the sun or in the universe can stop His promises for you to be fulfilled.
Reflection:
Have you given up on God's promises over your life? Matthew reminds us that God’s timeline operates differently than ours. What appears as abandonment may simply be the unfolding of a plan too vast for our immediate comprehension. Jesus didn’t arrive because circumstances finally aligned—He arrived because God’s word cannot fail.
Prayer:
Father, strengthen my faith in Your promises. When delays tempt me to doubt, help me remember that Your faithfulness transcends time itself. You kept Your word to David and Abraham across thousands of years; help me trust that You will keep Your word to me. May I surrender my timeline to Your perfect plan, knowing that what You have promised, You will accomplish. Amen.
