Same Spirit
I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and will put the same upon them.
Numbers 11:17
In many ways, Moses resembles the Lord Jesus Christ. Moses served as a shadow and a prophetic picture of the Messiah who was to come. In Deuteronomy 18:15, Moses declares that God will raise up a Prophet like him from among the children of Israel.
Indeed, Moses was a foreshadow of Christ. God even told Aaron and Miriam that He did not speak to Moses through dreams or visions, but face to face. In the same way, Jesus—while on earth—shared that intimate closeness with the Father, for He came from the very bosom of God.
One of the most wonderful similarities is reflected in our verse today: just as God took of the Spirit that was upon Moses and distributed it among the seventy elders, so now He has poured out the same Spirit that rested upon Jesus on all who accept Him as Lord and Savior.
This means we are empowered to do the works Jesus did—and even greater. Jesus Himself said, “Greater works than these shall you do.” The Spirit of the Lord led Jesus daily, revealed the Father’s will to Him, protected Him, sustained Him, and performed miracles and wonders through Him.
Now that very same Spirit—the One who empowered Jesus to raise Lazarus from the dead, the very Spirit who raised Christ from the dead—lives inside you.
Your part is simply to acknowledge Him every moment, to learn to hear His voice, to incline your ear to Him. That means humbling yourself, being teachable, and giving attention to what He says. When you follow the Holy Spirit in this way, He will always guide you into the perfect will of God the Father.
Then you will accomplish much and walk in the abundant life that the Lord Jesus promised.
Reflection:
Take a moment and think who you have inside of you. It is no ordinary, it is the Spirit of God Himself who was upon Lord Jesus Christ.
May this thought always fill your mind.
Think of the ways you can engage the Spirit of God in your everyday life. He is given to help you.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the precious Holy Spirit whom you have given to me as a helper—the same Spirit who was in Lord Jesus.
Help me to be mindful of your Spirit. Help me to hear His voice and be led by Him everyday and in all that I do. May my life prosper through the leading of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
