Give the best
This shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all your dwellings: you shall eat neither fat nor blood.
Leviticus 3:17
In Leviticus, God established detailed instructions for Israel’s worship. Some of these commands—like not eating fat or blood—may seem strange to us today. But behind every instruction was a deeper spiritual truth: God is holy, and His people must approach Him with reverence, respect, and obedience.
The fat represented the best part of the animal, which was to be offered exclusively to God. The blood symbolized life itself, which belongs to God alone. By forbidding the people to consume these, God taught them that certain things were sacred, set apart, and not to be treated casually.
Even today, while we are no longer under the ceremonial laws of Israel, the principle remains:
There are areas of life God still calls us to honor, surrender, and set apart for Him.
God desires that we give Him the best—not the leftovers. Our time, our worship, our decisions, our possessions—He calls us to approach Him with a heart that says, “Lord, You deserve the best part of my life.”
And when we honor our Lord and Savior who gave the best for us — His own life and salvation—with our best, we experience His nearness, His blessing, and His peace. Holiness is not a restriction—it is an invitation to deeper fellowship with Him.
Reflection:
Are there areas of my life where I have given God less than the best? Have I treated anything sacred as common or casual? How can I set apart more of my time, my heart, and my priorities for God?
Take a moment to ask the Lord to reveal anything He wants you to surrender or set apart for Him.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for teaching me the importance of honoring what is sacred. Help me to give You the best of my life—not the leftovers.Reveal any area where I have taken Your presence lightly, and help me to restore honor which is due to you.
In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
