Never thought

And Israel said to Joseph, ‘I had not thought to see your face; but in fact, God has also shown me your offspring!

Genesis 48:11

Jacob, now called Israel, had long believed his beloved son Joseph was dead. Years of sorrow had buried his hope. Yet in this moment, standing before Joseph and his sons, Jacob realizes the faithfulness and exceeding goodness of God. He not only saw Joseph again but also his grandchildren — a blessing far beyond what he had ever imagined.
This verse beautifully reflects the truth in Ephesians 3:20 — “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” God delights in going beyond our expectations. Where we see loss, He prepares restoration. Where we think the story is over, He writes a greater ending.
The faithfulness of the Lord Jesus Christ is the same today. He doesn’t just meet our needs — He exceeds them. He restores broken dreams, redeems lost years, and fills our lives with unexpected joy. Like Jacob, we too can look back one day and say, “I never thought I will see this — but God!”
Reflection:
Are there areas in your life where you’ve given up hope or settled for less? Remember that our Lord is not limited by time, circumstance, or human impossibility. His faithfulness never fails, and His power works beyond what you can imagine. Trust Him — He is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being a God who exceeds all expectations. Just as You restored Jacob’s joy and showed him more than he ever dreamed, I believe You are working in my life in ways I cannot yet see. Strengthen my faith to trust in Your timing and Your goodness. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your unfailing faithfulness. I rest in Your promises, knowing You will do abundantly more than I ask or think.
Amen.
