Return to Succoth and be blessed

Jacob journeyed to Succoth, built himself a house, and made booths for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.

Gen 33:17

After many years of wandering and struggling in a foreign land, Jacob finally began his journey home. He had lived in Haran, serving his uncle Laban—deceived, mistreated, and living outside the fullness of God’s promise. But once Jacob obeyed God’s voice to “return to your country and to your kindred” (Genesis 31:3), everything began to change.
Genesis 33:17 marks a turning point. It says Jacob “built himself a house.” This is significant because until now, Jacob had been a sojourner—moving from place to place, with no stability or rest. But the moment he began walking in God’s will and direction, God began to establish him. The one who had fled in fear was now dwelling in peace. The wanderer had become a builder.
When you are outside God’s will, no matter how much effort you put in, you will feel unsettled and unfulfilled. You might build things with your own strength, but they won’t stand firm. But the moment you return to where God wants you to be—spiritually, emotionally, or even physically—He begins to build your “house.”
Jacob didn’t just find a place to stay; he found a place of belonging. God began to restore his family, his peace, and his purpose. The same is true for you. When you return to the place of obedience, God will start building what you couldn’t. He will build your home, your ministry, your future, and your legacy—because His blessing rests where His will is followed.
Sometimes all God waits for is your return. He waits for you to turn back from the place of striving and step into the place of surrender. That’s where He establishes you.
Examine:
Are there areas of your life where you’ve been wandering outside God’s will—chasing success, comfort, or control? Today, God invites you to return. When you do, He will make you dwell in peace and begin to build your house again.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being patient with me even when I wander. Help me to return to the place You have called me to. Build my house, my life, and my future according to Your will. May I find my rest in obedience to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
