Ladder of blessing
Then Jacob dreamed and saw a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the LORD stood above it.
Gen 28:12-13
We are familiar with this famous dream about Jacob's ladder and how God Almighty blessed Jacob through this dream.
In Jacob's dream, he saw "a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and the angels of God ascending and descending on it" (Genesis 28:12).
And God blessed Jacob through this ladder. Jacob named this place "Bethel" which means house of God.
This ladder is the connection between humanity and God, the open pathway by which heaven communicates with earth.
Centuries later, Jesus revealed the full meaning of this dream when He told Nathanael,
"You will see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man" (John 1:51).
Jesus Himself is the true ladder, the way by which we access the Father.
But how do we ascend this ladder? How do we enter Bethel, the house of God? The answer is prayer through Lord Jesus Christ.
Prayer is our Jacob's ladder—the means by which we climb into God's presence and experience the reality that heaven's doors are open above us.
When we pray, we are not shouting into an empty void; we are stepping onto holy ground where angels ascend and descend, carrying our petitions to the throne and returning with heaven's answers.
Scripture repeatedly affirms that prayer opens the doors of heaven. Jesus Himself promises, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened" (Matthew 7:7-8). This is not a blank check for selfish desires, but an invitation into communion with our heavenly Father who loves to give good gifts to His children.
The writer of Hebrews extends this same invitation: "Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need" (Hebrews 4:16).
So what are you waiting for. Pray and seek the LORD. In Christ establish the ladder of blessing through prayer. Set aside a dedicated time every day to pray.
Seek Him with all your heart and receive from God the blessing that you are expecting.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank You that through Jesus Christ, You have opened the doors of heaven to me.
Thank You for the ladder that spans from earth to heaven—Jesus, my Mediator and Way
Teach me to pray without ceasing, to approach Your throne with confidence, and to live with the awareness that angels are ascending and descending, ministering to me and carrying my prayers to You. May I be found faithful in prayer, knowing that the prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. In Jesus' name, Amen.
