Marked for protection
Then the LORD put a mark on Cain to warn anyone who might try to kill him.
Gen 4:15
We all know the story of Cain and Abel, often taught from childhood. Cain, moved by jealousy, killed his brother Abel, and God’s judgment came upon him. Overwhelmed by the weight of his punishment and fearful for his life, Cain cried out to God. In His mercy, God placed a mark on Cain so that no one would harm him.
In many ways, we are like Cain, for we too have sinned. The Bible tells us that “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). But here is the good news: Jesus Christ took our place, bore our punishment, died for us, and rose again in victory.
Now, when we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, God places His seal on us as well. Ephesians 1:13 says that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit when we put our trust in Christ. This seal is God’s mark of ownership and protection, guarding us from the power of sin and the attacks of the enemy.
Therefore, you do not need to live in fear or worry—you are marked with the seal of the Holy Spirit. Hold on to this truth, for it brings freedom and peace. As Jesus said in John 8:32, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”
